Abrahamic Covenant Brings Wealth

1. Introduction

This study will find that the Abrahamic Covenant still brings wealth to you today.

The Bible confirms wealth is a blessing! Under the New Covenant, the Abrahamic blessing of wealth still applies to you as long as you give to the kingdom.

Just because some people are greedy for money and think that the gospel is a means of making money at others’ expense does not cancel out that WE CAN pray for wealth to use for the advancement of the Kingdom of God here on earth.

Some statements that are relevant to this study are in Studying the Bible. The New Covenant is the active covenant; however, nothing regarding wealth in the Abrahamic Covenant contradicts the New Testament or Covenant.

2. Abrahamic Covenant Still Applies

A. The Blessings of the Abrahamic Covenant come through to us:

Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ.

Galatians 3:16

The seeds are those not of Isaac. Jesus is the Seed who Paul refers to in this scripture.

B. We Abide in Him

John teaches we abide in Christ and He in us:

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

John 15:4

Because we are one in Christ, the promises given to Abraham are our promises. Therefore the Abrahamic Covenant still brings wealth.

C. The Law could not Annul the Promise Given to Abraham.

And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect.
For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

Galatians 3:17-18

In John 8:37-59, the Jews considered themselves the seed of Abraham, yet Jesus made it clear that only those who believed in Him were the seed of Abraham. 

D. The Curses of the Abrahamic Promise do not come Through to us:

I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Genesis 12:3

Because Jesus took all the curses upon Himself, those curses died with Him.

3. Abrahamic Covenant Brings Wealth.

A. God Promised that Abraham was to be Wealthy:

And he blessed him and said:
“Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Possessor of heaven and earth;

Genesis 14:19

Melchizedek is a type of Christ. We look a little more in detail into Melchizedek in God’s Plan for Kingdom.

For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,
to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated “king of righteousness,” and then also king of Salem, meaning “king of peace,” without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.

Hebrews 7:1-3

• The word Possessor refers to financial provision.
• It recognises that possessing wealth is not just on earth but must also be attained in the heavenly realms.

B. Abraham recognised Jesus in Melchizedek and, as a result, gave Him his wealth.

And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all.

Genesis 14:20

C. Abraham recognised that his wealth came from God:

But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth,

Genesis 14:22

D. God then gave Abraham a promise of even greater wealth

God’s Covenant with Abram
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

Genesis 15:1

E. After Abraham gives to Melchizedek.

In the scripture above, “after these things” refers to Abram’s actions to see this come to pass.
If we are to receive the financial promise associated with the Abrahamic Covenant, we need to be doing these things:

• Discipleship:

And the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) went out and joined together in battle in the Valley of Siddim
against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of nations, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five.
…
Then they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, and went their way.
They also took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, for he dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner; and they were allies with Abram.
Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.
….
So he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people.

Genesis 14:9-16

We need to be involved in discipling people, just like Abraham looked after his nephew Lot. Abraham was like a father figure to Lot, protecting Lot’s family and possessions from being carried away. When we disciple people, we look out for them and teach them how to warfare against the Devil; who comes only to steal, kill and destroy.

• Melchizedek is a type of Jesus:

Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High.

Genesis 14:18

• Giving to Jesus:

And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all.

Genesis 14:20

We need to be generous in our giving to Jesus.

• Recognising God is our Possessor:

But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth,
that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’—

Genesis 14:22

• Generosity to those who were prominent in fighting the battle alongside Abraham:

except only what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.”

Genesis 14:24

Abraham shared the loot only with three of the 318 men who went to battle.
In Genesis 14:14, Abraham used trained men of war who were born in Abraham’s house.

Now, when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants born in his own house and pursued as far as Dan.

Like Abraham, I look for men and women to invest in financially who have caught the vision of Awakening Impact Ministries AND are doing the work of this ministry, building the kingdom of God.

And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses commit these to faithful men who will also teach others.

2 Timothy 2:2

• Believing the promises:

After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

Genesis 15:1

4. God’s Abrahamic Covenant Included the Promise of Bringing Wealth.

The covenant starts in Genesis 15:1, and the context involves finances and blessing.

A. Shield from Financial Loss:

We need to be wise when blessed financially; we do not waste it unwisely.
If we are wise, then He will shield us:

After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield…

Genesis 15:1

B. God Promises Very Great Financial Growth:

… your exceedingly great reward.”

Genesis 15:1

• VERY – exceedingly, vehemently, quickly, rapidly
• GREAT – abundant, multiplying, heap, growing
• REWARD – worth, compensation, salary, wages,

C. The Covenant Brings Financial Promise:

However, the financial guarantee still applies because the covenant is primarily a promise of descendants. Solomon asked for wisdom rather than riches and received both. Likewise, Abraham asks for an heir and receives both an heir and wealth.

D. Financial Prosperity would come to his Descendants as well:

And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions.

Genesis 15:14

Approximately 400 years later, they did come out with great possessions:

Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing.
And the LORD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.

Exodus 12:35-36

5. Having Faith in God’s Desire to Prosper You is the Key to Financial Blessing.

After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

Genesis 15:1

A. Faith is the Shield:

above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

Ephesians 6:16

B. Faith is Required to Receive the Reward:

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:6

6. God confirmed the Promise Through Abraham’s Natural Seed – Isaac.

The Glory of the Forefathers brings more teaching on Isaac’s wealth.

A. God Confirmed the Abrahamic Covenant with Isaac:

Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.
And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”

Genesis 26:3-5

B. Isaac Became Wealthy Even in Famine:

There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar.

Genesis 26:1

Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him.

Genesis 26:12

C. Isaac Tithes to the House of God:

Isaac meets with God and, as a result, gives God a tenth of His income. He didn’t give to the kingdom yet, because there was no kingdom to give to:

Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

Genesis 28:12

Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.”
And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”

Genesis 28:16-17

And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.”

Genesis 28:22

6. Summary

• We are the seed of Abraham because we are in Christ.
• The blessings we receive are to bless others.
• Giving a tenth due to our revelation of God our Father and Jesus our Lord will result in a very great reward.

So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.

Galatians 3:9

That blessing means the Abrahamic Covenant still brings wealth.
